If you are in Northern Virginia and haven't been to the Game Parlour in
Chantilly VA, go there at once. They have excellent facilities and products.
I believe there is at least one guy who runs a GURPS Traveller game there
(or did until recently). They have a good notice board for finding players
or referees. (I just had to move out of Viriginia.). There are several
places on the Web where you can find places to advertise for players or find
games in your area, I'd suggest the following site to get you started:

This is the Mining Company's list of Weblinks for "finding a game" and
can lead to some good leads.

Subject: Cool site and stuff to download

Here is a (semi) brief mention of my site.

I have updated several sections, and now also have a selection of deck
plans. These are PDF (Acrobat Reader version 4 is required) files drawn at
25mm, so they can be output at the correct size for figures. They also have
1 yard hexes on them for GURPS. I consider these deck plans much better then
the published ones, as several things I saw as flaws have been corrected.
The Safari ship turned out especially nice, IMHO. They were done in Adobe
Illustrator 8.01 if anyone wants the originals.

I have also included a PDF of all the characters I made for Gen Con. There
is a party of 8 100-point crewmembers of a free trader, and 4 alternate
characters in case any female gamers showed up (one did). The character
sheets are a combination of the Classic Traveller TAS form and the GURPS
character sheet. I hope you like it. It was done in Excel 2000 if anyone
wants the original files. The backgrounds are as true to the Spinward
Marches, and the Aramis subsector background as I could make them.

My games went very well at Gen Con. The first one was a bit slow at the end,
as the group did not react very quickly to a time-intensive threat that was
building, so I had to change the story a bit to avoid the entire party
dying. I don't think you should kill off the whole party when players pay to
get into your game. The other two went great! Thanks to any of the list who
played, especially the guy with the wrist brace who knew way too much about
Traveller to be healthy, sorry I forgot your name. In general, almost
everyone at the games played or at least read a lot about Traveller. I was
VERY happy with the quality of players there. I hope they liked my games.

There is also a PDF of the Imperial calendar and some other stuff.

Actually, the Vilani _are_ culturally homogeneous, at least in
comparison to present-day Earth - the "diversity" I was referring
to was _ours_, here on Earth - and many of the basic facts of
life on Vland (biochemically difficult if not hostile), their
cultural development probably won't resemble _any_ of Earths
divers cultures. As far as pure-Vilani worlds, there probably
aren't any, though most people would think of Vland itself that
way. Just like on Earth - there aren't really any countries that
are "pure" ethnically or culturally any more - but we still think
of some of them as though they are.

I continued:

>> Vland was an entirely different kind of environment, and the general

Again, that would likely be a cultural issue - even courtship and
marriage (or the Vilani social equivalent) is likely to be a long
process involving a lot of consensus-building, because, again,
the cooperative ethic is so heavily ingrained. It's far less
likely that the kinds of social incompatibilities that lead to
divorce in the United States (and there are countries which have
_much_ lower divorce rates) will arise in Vilani culture.

>But perhaps they don't have the same family structure that we do and these

... and probably not with the same level of animosity as is
commonly portrayed in U.S. culture.

>How heterogeneous are Vilani physical types? Do they have the same variety
>of looks that Solomani do (skin color, eye shape, hair texture?)

Not as much variety as we have, but some. Most people today, if
they saw a Vilani, would probably think of a Polynesian, possibly
with African blood.

>I can't recall and I'm getting new books so please forgive me if these are

These are _not_ idiot questions, and if you can make up _answers_
to questions like these (and I'll bet you can!), you definitely
should be working with us on the Traveller Cultural Developement
List (Traveller-Culture).

You must have missed the Great KPFA war... KPFA, the nation's oldest
public-radio station, recently suffered a bewildering series of lock-outs,
on-air protests (including one that ended with the DJ being physically
dragged from the booth while still broadcasting!), sit-ins, and marches
that attracted anybody in Berkeley with an ax to grind along with The Naked
Guy{1}.

Just when we think they've calmed down.. of course, Berkeley is the home of
the Lawrence National Nuclear Labs, where most of our nuclear weapons were
designed! Thus, the cosmic karma is maintained, dude.

[1] The Naked Guy is an ex-UC Berkeley student who lost several court cases
in which he demanded the right to attend classes nude. He still wanders
around naked. They've given up arresting him. He seems to enjoy it.

In the Mark - Segui system, there is one inhabitable world circling
each star and the two stars orbit a common point with ~450AU
separating them. Mark is a TL9, spacefaring, world with Jump 1
technology now (Jump 2 is high tech in this area). Mark had
contacted and planted colonies on the mainworld of Segui even before
they developed Jump 1.

Segui has an indigious Vargr population currently at late TL4. The
Vargr and humans have been "dealing" with each other for several
generations now and the two societies have been pretty well
integrated.

The relationship between the two is basically one where Segui
provides raw materials and agricultural products to Mark and Mark
supplies higher tech manufactured good to Segui. In this
*particular* case the relationship is fairly even-handed, due to the
policies of Mark's government.

I'm thinking the PC's will work out from this system as a base of
operation. Of course, *they* may decide to go elsewhere. ;->

Um.. nuclear weapons are designed at Lawrence Livermore National Laboritories, which are (surprise) located in Livermore. Lawrence Berkeley Lab doesn't do nuclear weapons research.

Ah, it's not so bad. It's just a "been done to death" topic. Now if you'd written V***s that would have been different. ;-J
